My New Year’s Resolutions for 2019

I look in awe at my favourite Dartmoor Logan Stone at Thornworthy Tor. To me, it transmits an intangible energy and represents a metaphor for life: being rounded, balanced, and unashamedly “different”, which as humans we may aspire to.

Despite what the News and Social Media would have us think, I believe the majority of people on our planet are kind, considerate and pretty decent. We each do our best to look after those we love, and sometimes even those we will never meet.

At the same time, we could be excused despairing at the behaviour of some nation states, political leaders and people we don’t happen to agree with. In Douglas Adams “Life, The Universe and Everything”, Ford declares, “My Doctor says that I have a malformed public-duty gland and a natural deficiency in moral fibre … and therefore I am excused from saving Universes”. I have every sympathy with that view, given the enormity of the task!

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn summed up life’s central problem by saying “the line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either – but right through every human heart”. So that seems like a good place to start with my new year resolutions.

I am giving up giving up “-ings” (such as drinking, over-eating, speeding etc), as I am my own best saboteur! Jordan B. Peterson in his “12 Rules for Life” suggests, “You can begin by treating yourself as if you were someone you were responsible for helping”.  Dowsing for my own health and well-being  regularly would help fulfil that “rule”, so I will take that one on as another resolution.

Finally, I resolve to emulate the pivoting act of the Logan Stone, by finding my centre of gravity, getting balanced physically and spiritually, then making life rock !

Happy dowsing in 2019

Happy Christmas everyone!

Print pagePDF pageEmail page

There is something magical about Christmas time. Perhaps it’s the fascinating combination of secular and sacred traditions, having overlapped from the beginning. Celebrating the birth of Jesus and waiting for Santa Claus aren’t mutually exclusive in my view, in the same way as ‘The Holly and the Ivy’, ‘Good King Wenceslas’ and ‘Away in a Manger’ sit comfortably with each other on a carol service list, to be sung in a candle-lit church decorated with holly and woodland greenery.

I have spent many interesting hours dowsing in beautiful and interesting Devon churches in 2018, respecting the sacred space present, moving trapped souls to the light, finding the earth energies flowing through the buildings, discovering Green men and the three-hare motif in the wooden roof bosses and enjoying glorious stained-glass windows, such as Archangel Michael in Spreyton church, with the Michael earth energy line flowing beneath, pagan and Christian symbols combining to create that sacred space.

By dowsing we can both find and create our own special spaces, which will remain dormant until we activate them with our Intent to foster greater love, compassion and kindness this Christmas, embracing the messages from our wonderful ancient traditions.

Merry Christmas to one and all.

Christopher Strong Obituary

30 June 2018, Cambridge, with thanks to Patricia Finn Litchfield.

We have just lost one of the brightest stars in the Dowsing firmament. Christopher Strong passed away yesterday evening.

We have lost not just a Master Dowser, who was in a class of his own, but a beautiful man, whose amazing dowsing skills were matched by his kindness, generosity, egolessness, warmth and humility.

Devon Dowsers have benefitted from his insights and knowledge through his talks and workshops run in Devon as well as in other locations, for many years, the last one being in February 2017.

I have fond memories of Christopher, having attended his “Dowsing for lost objects” workshop in Oxfordshire, where he introduced me to my Parking Angel, which I am for ever in his debt, as I have without fail found parking spaces in the most improbable situations, ever since. His workshops at BSD conferences were always full of great stories one could learn from.

Three years ago, the two of us escaped the music and dancing at the BSD Conference at Leicester University, and sat together watching the Rugby World Cup cheering on Japan over our pints.

Veronika, Christopher’s wife was also a gifted dowser. Now they can once again be reunited in their love for each other. We say our sad goodbyes to Christopher with love, and a big “thank you” for enriching our lives with his passion for dowsing.

DFEST

23 & 24 June 2018

South Zeal, Devon

We can look back to last June’s sunshine and reflect on the success of DFest, the first South West Dowsing Festival. Over 100 people attended and used the evaluation form to share how much they had enjoyed the weekend. It was a chance to dowse at some of Dartmoor’s iconic sites, to listen to engaging speakers, and to attend fascinating Dowsing Workshops.

A digital souvenir report is available HERE. We hope this report will provide you with enjoyable memories and provide inspiration for your dowsing throughout the months ahead.
